This research project brings together leading experts from both institutions to develop a next-generation water treatment technology. The team is led by Professor Di Wu of Ghent University Global Campus, Songdo, South Korea, in close collaboration with Professor Shuangshi Dong and Professor Jingjing Jiang (Jilin University), to addresses the critical environmental and public health risks posed by untreated wastewater containing "emerging contaminants," such as pharmaceutically active compounds and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes and so on.
The collaboration will leverage the complementary strengths of Jilin University and Ghent University. The project's scope includes the synthesis of advanced materials, membrane fabrication, and crucially, the treatment of real hospital wastewater to investigate degradation pathways and antifouling mechanisms under practical conditions.
The kick-off meeting held today in Changchun marks the official start of research activities, signaling a strong commitment from both nations to investing in innovative, cross-border scientific discovery.
