Exploring new Korea-China collaboration opportunities

GUGC Professor Serge Zhuiykov has visited the Institute of Process Technology (IPT) and Institute of Physics and Chemistry (IPC) of the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) in Beijing during June 2025 as a CAS Distinguished Scientist. Prof. Zhuiykov, as an international expert in two-dimensional (2D) semiconductor nanoscience and nanostructures with more than 30 years of international experience, has presented a seminar on “2D Semiconductor Heterointerfaces: State-of-the-art and Approaches” at both IPC and IPC of the CAS with the following engagement into academic discussions with institutes’ faculty and students regarding the applications of 2D semiconductors at the different areas.

During his visit he also had numerous fruitful meetings with his host Prof. Yanbin Cui of the IPT CAS about research directions where both GUGC and IPT could collaborate in future. Moreover, after visiting the IPT laboratory facilities and taking part in seminar of the Prof. Cui’s group, specific scientific areas where both parties plan to apply for the next round of joint Korea-China funding opportunities in future were discussed in detail and were agreed upon. So far, the GUGC-IPT collaboration has been reflected by 5 joint publications in the leading international scientific journals with several more in the pipeline.

Furthermore, similar discussions were also taking place at the IPC CAS with Prof. Jiangtao Li and his group after Prof. Zhuiykov presentation.

On the personal note, Prof. Zhuiykov was grateful to both Prof. Cui (IPT) and Prof. Li (IPC) of CAS for their warm hospitality during his visit. He also was deeply impressed by the richness of the 5000 years old history of China and friendly and welcoming attitude of the Chinese people he met during his visit of the significant historical places in Beijing.
