[Songdo, 19 August 2025] — On August 19, GUGC hosted a workshop on securing marine algal biomass and its bioapplications. Experts discussed carbon-neutral strategies, bioactive compounds from brown algae and diatoms, and biomedical applications. Highlights included Prof. Sungchil Yang (CityU HK) on Dieckorin’s neurotherapeutic potential and Prof. Keun-A Chang (Gachon Univ.) on Alzheimer’s treatment. The event fostered collaboration opportunities with Prof. Jihae Park’s team.

Key Discussion Themes

  1. Collaboration plan through designation of ISO test-bed for carbon emission reduction technologies at sea and tidal flat linked with free economic zone
  2. Biomedical applications of diatoms
  3. Neuroprotective potential and industrial applications of Korean kelp polyphenols
  4. Pharmacotherapeutic effects of Dieckorin in the treatment of mental and neurodegenerative disorders
  5. A bioactive small molecule from natural sources for the treatment of Alzheimers disease
Industrialization strategy of natural products and a regulatory approval case of a cognitive-enhancing material: Dendropanax morbiferus
