[Songdo, 19 August 2025] — On August 19, GUGC hosted a workshop on securing marine algal biomass and its bioapplications. Experts discussed carbon-neutral strategies, bioactive compounds from brown algae and diatoms, and biomedical applications. Highlights included Prof. Sungchil Yang (CityU HK) on Dieckorin’s neurotherapeutic potential and Prof. Keun-A Chang (Gachon Univ.) on Alzheimer’s treatment. The event fostered collaboration opportunities with Prof. Jihae Park’s team.
Key Discussion Themes
- Collaboration plan through designation of ISO test-bed for carbon emission reduction technologies at sea and tidal flat linked with free economic zone
- Biomedical applications of diatoms
- Neuroprotective potential and industrial applications of Korean kelp polyphenols
- Pharmacotherapeutic effects of Dieckorin in the treatment of mental and neurodegenerative disorders
- A bioactive small molecule from natural sources for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease
